Walking with the Holy Spirit PDF Print E-mail

preached @ Metro by Pastor Jeff Williams 11th June 2006

ImageAt time life can  seem a bit like an obstacle course, with many challenges, and hurdles. How are we to navigate through life. Jesus promised us that He wouldn't leave us alone, but He would send a helper, the Holy Spirit, who would guide us in all truth.

How are we to walk with the Holy Spirit daily?

Firstly - recognise that the Holy Spirit lives with in us.

The bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 6:19 that we are the temples of the Holy Spirit. In the Old Testament the presence of God dwelt in a temple, behind a curtain which the High Priest was only allowed to go through once a year. When Jesus died on the cross that curtain was torn in two, signifying that the way was now open for all to come into the presence of God.

Learn to rely on the Holy Spirit

John 16:13 tells us that the Holy Spirit will guide us. Matthew 7:14 says the way to life is narrow, and only a few find it. We need the Holy Spirit to lead us !

The Holy Spirit  will convict us of sin

John 16:8, it important that we listen to the Holy Spirit as He points out those things in our lives which grieve Him, and separate us from God.

Take steps of faith as you walk with the Holy Spirit

Galatains 5:16 tells us to walk with the Spirit and as we do we will find we aren't living for ourselves, but rather for God. Obedience is the key to walking with the Holy Spirit.

Learn to distinguish the voice of the Holy Spirit

1 Kings 19:11-13 tells us that the voice of God is often a gentle whisper. We may at times be looking for the booming signs, but God wants us to quiet our hearts and spend time with Him, so as we can hear His voice.

The life of walking with God, is the most exciting life a person can experience. It is what moves Christianity from just following a moral code, to a dynamic relationship with our creator, the living God!!
