preached @ Metro 7th May 2006 by Pastor Jeff WilliamsImage

Karl Marx and his ideas had a profound affect upon the 20th century. But their is a difference to  holding an idea and actually living out that idea. It was said that Karl Marx may have had one friend who was from the middle class, he also had servants until he died. He held an idea of equality, but still lived in ways which contradicted this. We as Christians hold ideas, but do we live these ideas out?

In Matthew 22:36 we see how Jesus summed up Christianity as loving God, and loving others. Jesus also told a parable in Luke 10:25-37 which shows us what he meant , when he said to love others. It is the story of the Good Samaritan. He was a person who demonstrated what it meant to love others, and in so doing live beyond one's self.

To live beyond myself means involvement

This man was on a journey, but he stopped when he saw a fellow human being in need, and offered help.

To live beyond myself takes time

Opportunities to help others, don't always come at the most conveient times. It has beens aid that time is the currency of our modern day way of life. It can be easier to make a donation than actually get involved and help someone in need.

To love beyond myself costs something

Teh good samaritan used his own resource to help this man. We need to remember that we are blessed so that we might be a blessing to others.

Luke 6:28 syas it really weel

Give away your life, you'll find life given back, but not merely given back... given back with bonus and blessing.

May God help us to trully live beyond ourselves.
