Preached @ Metro 5th March 2006 by Jeff Williams
God has given us a job to do !! This Great Commission can be summed up in the following 4 words: WIN, CONSOLDIATE, DISCIPLE, SEND. The Great Commission started way back in the Old Testament Genesis 12:2-3 I will bless you and make your name great. And you shall be a blessing .. And in you all of the families of the earth shall be blessed.
We are Blessed to be a Blessing! The Great Commission flows out of The Father’s VisionRev 7:9After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white and held palm branches in their hands. 10And they were shouting with a mighty shout, "Salvation comes from our God on the throne and from the Lamb!" The Great Commission flows out of The Father’s Heart of compassionJesus looked upon the multiptudes ... Matthew 9 :35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
The Great CommissionThis command can be broken into 4 parts 1. Go and make disciples – WIN people to JesusIt is the Heart of God! John 3:16 NLT 16"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17God did not send his Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. Friendship evangelism 2. Baptising them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit – CONSOLIDATE them to Jesus, making sure they are grounded in their salvation.
3. Teaching them to obey all the commands that Jesus has given us. DISCIPLE.Not just decisions, but followers of Jesus.(disciples) 4. The process starts over again – SEND – go and make more disciples. The process of discipleship is not complete until the disciple becomes the discipler. God has given each of us a mandate, as a church we can all play a part in this Great Commission. Let's seek to win people to Jesus, consolidate them in their faith. Disciple them so as they live their lives for Jesus and His Kingdom. Then in turn go and do likewise, making disciples. |
