peached @ Metro by Pastor Jeff Williams 27th August 2006 There ar many things we need in life to suceed, tonight we are going to look at one of those things. 1 Timothy 1:18 Timothy, my son, I give you this instruction in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by following them you may fight the good fight. 1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Summed up - Paul was telling Timothy to Fight the good fight.Fight for what you believe in, cherish , value. Animals have basic instinct of survival, another way of putting it – “I want to Live”.We as humans also possess this desire – to survive – to live. But there are many things that try to steal this from us.Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy. 1 Peter 5:8-10 - "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. We can learn from David how he faced some of his battles. In the story found in 1 Samuel 17 we see how David conquered the giant Goliath. 1. Don’t live and walk by sight"And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid. They lay their eyes on Goliath, and all they can see is the physical--"We’re going to be slaughtered." 2. Everyone who’s never killed a giant will say it can’t be done. When David began asking about this giant the first opposition he met wasn’t the enemy but his own brother Eliab. Now don’t forget who Eliab really is. He was the first so to walk before Samuel in our story last week, you know the one God rejected as King. He was probably standing their as the horn of oil had been emptied over his little brother’s head something which had to have been hard for the older brother to handle. 3. You can’t because !!!!!!!!!!!17:33 is typical--"You can’t win this victory; you’re too young!" You can’t do that …. – your too ?????????????? Ignore the doubts expressed by the faithless around you, 17:33. Saul expresses his doubts and fears. People will tell you 4. David stood for something– certain things he valued and cherished – HIS GOD!I know whom I have believed (? Scripture verse) 5. David’s confidence and trust was in His Godv45-46 6. The battle is one in the smaller events of everyday lifeWhere do you think David’s unwavering confidence in God came from? The answer is simple. He got it from the same source we get it from today. He had seen God work to vanquish lesser adversaries in his life. Listen to what David said in verse 37 of our story today, “The Lord, who saved me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, will save me from the hand of this Philistine.” David’s faith had sustained him and strengthened him in the lesser battles of life preparing him for the day he would meet Goliath. He use to write songs and worship God on the sheep fields 7. Facing your giants opens the door to your futureDavid wining this battle lead David into his future. It eventually ead to him becoming King! |
